Under the general direction of the Director of Modeling, this position will perform a wide variety of professional and technical planning assignments, including data and analysis support for the regional travel demand model, long range transportation planning, economic development, land use, housing, environmental, and sustainability.

GIS & Planning Intern

AMBAG is hiring for a GIS & Planning Intern.

This is a part-time position; the successful candidate will work between ten and nineteen hours per week. The hourly rate ranges between $14.70 to $19.77.

2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy

AMBAG is developing the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (MTP/SCS). The 2045 MTP/SCS is scheduled for adoption in June 2022.

Monterey Bay Area Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan

AMBAG is required to develop a Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan (Coordinated Plan) for the tri-county region. Under the 2015 Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act) legislation, this plan must be completed and used in developing grant applications for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Transportation for Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities (Section 5310) grant program.

Central Coast Highway 1 Climate Resiliency Study

The Highway 1 corridor near Elkhorn Slough presents significant challenges to the future of transportation in the Monterey Bay region under conditions of climate change and sea level rise that must be addressed. This project will provide a comprehensive assessment of the threats and options available to respond to those threats including the transportation, environmental and economic dimensions. It will develop a risk assessment process grounded in formal analysis and conducted through a stakeholder engagement process.

Local Roadway Departure Safety Workshop

Roadway Departure crashes are frequently severe and account for the majority of highway fatalities. In 2015, there were 18,695 fatalities as a result of roadway departure crashes, which was 53 percent of all the traffic fatalities in the United States. Roadway departure crashes account for 46 percent of all traffic fatalities in California.

Local Update of Census Address (LUCA) In-Person Training

AMBAG will be hosting a Local Update of Census Address (LUCA) in-person training on Tuesday December 12th, 2017. The training and materials will be provided by the Los Angeles Regional Census Center.

LUCA is the only opportunity offered to tribal, state, and local governments to review and comment on the U.S. Census Bureau's residential address list for their jurisdiction prior to the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau relies on a complete and accurate address list to reach every living quarters and associated population for inclusion in the census.
